Details
  • Moon-Viewing Point by Utagawa Hiroshige (Ando) (Japan, 1797-1858). A tremendous Japanese woodblock print by a Ukiyo-e master. In my opinion, one of the most iconic and influential Ukiyo-e images from the Edo period. No. 82 from the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (Meisho Edo hyakkei). Published in 1857.

The image depicts a brothel or inn in the ward of Shinagawa. Leftovers of a meal are visible under the rising moon as a partially visibly geisha and courtesan are present in the periphery.
