  • Woman Enjoying a Sherry by Takehisa Yumeji (Japan, 1884-1934). An elegant scene depicting a modern woman in traditional dress. A fresh and contemporary approach to the depiction of women in Japanese art which began to blossom in the Taisho era and was carried forward into the Showa period through the efforts of many bold modern Japanese artists. This print depicts a woman in her beautiful kimono casually enjoying a glass of sherry at a table. The print to me has a sense of independence and individualism. Published in the 1930s by Kato Junji.
