Details
  • Untitled Portraits of a Woman by Yoshitoshi Mori (Japan, 1898-1992). Double sided painting. The paintings are both signed and dated in pencil by the artist. The side with the nude painting has an additional inscription in pencil on the bottom right. This work was originally purchased directly from the Mori estate.

    Curator's Note:

A beautiful work composed over a span of two years. The work depicts what looks to be a portrait of the same woman in different poses. The first painting was composed in 1985 and depicts the woman in a dress with her eyes closed smiling. The second work, done a year later in 1986, depicts what looks to be the same woman in the nude with a more sensual expression. In traditional Mori style there are elements of realism, combined with exaggerated features. This specific work also reminds me a bit of the style of Modigliani.

    Size: 13 1/2" h x 9 1/2 " w
    Condition: Excellent.
