Okano Kinuemon Fujiwara no Kanehide by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (Japan, 1839-1892). Number 18 in the series Stories of the Loyalty of Chivalrous Spirits (Seichu gishin den). The series depicts the forty-seven ronin who were loyal to daimyo Asano Naganori.
Okano Kinuemon Fujiwara no Kinehide is standing beside a wooden pillar, his unsheathed sword covered in blood. Blood is scattered throughout his clothing, residue from his previous battle. Okano Kinuemon Fujiwara no Kinehide was sent to a temple, but in order to satisfy his father’s wish he became one of the forty-seven ronin.
