  • Okano Kinuemon Fujiwara no Kanehide by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (Japan, 1839-1892). Number 18 in the series Stories of the Loyalty of Chivalrous Spirits (Seichu gishin den). The series depicts the forty-seven ronin who were loyal to daimyo Asano Naganori.

    Okano Kinuemon Fujiwara no Kinehide is standing beside a wooden pillar, his unsheathed sword covered in blood. Blood is scattered throughout his clothing, residue from his previous battle. Okano Kinuemon Fujiwara no Kinehide was sent to a temple, but in order to satisfy his father’s wish he became one of the forty-seven ronin.

    Published by Masudaya Ginjirō. Dated 1868 (date seal + number 18 (juhachi) in circle indicating the number in the series)

    Condition: Good color & impression. Some age related stains. Slight color fading. Some remnants from previous backing.
